Plenty of folks think of Thanksgiving as a day for feasting with family and friends, but for thousands of Arlington locals, it’s also a day of fitness and fun, thanks to the Arlington Turkey Trot on Nov. 28. Serious runners will be glad to know that this 5K race is chip-timed and offers cash prizes to the fastest finishers in each division. Casual runners will appreciate that the race-day atmosphere is casual and laid-back with an emphasis on community fun, which makes it a popular first race for non-competitive runners. That atmosphere also makes the Turkey Trot popular among non-runners, who are welcome to walk with strollers and pets, or to cheer on the sidelines.
Best of all, the race donates all proceeds to local non-profits working to support Arlington’s most vulnerable residents. Past Turkey Trot participants say it’s a great way to start the Thanksgiving holiday.
