Physical therapist and Pilates teacher Megan Brown teamed up with massage therapist and certified yoga instructor Sara VanderGoot in 2008 to create a studio where people of all ages and ability levels could practice Pilates and yoga. It's called Mind the Mat, and the fitness boutique continues to thrive today thanks to a talented team of teachers and classes that cater to everyone.
The Alexandria location, one of two branches, offers a wide variety of classes each day, so it should be easy to find something that fits into your schedule. Early birds may want to sign up for a 6 a.m. Hot Power Hour in a room heated to 95 degrees. Night owls, on the other hand, can unwind after a long day with a gentle yoga class that begins at 8:30 p.m. Pilates Barre, Hot Rock and Roll Flow Yoga, and Pilates Boot Camp offer a more intense workout for those really looking to sweat.
